World Famous Colt Burgess Lever Action Serial #1 Saddle Ring Carbine 44/40

Offered here is a once in a lifetime opportunity on a very highly coveted and desireable Serial #1 gun.  Here we have an untouched and mint condition Colt Burgess Lever Action Saddle Ring Carbine.  The carbine is chambered for the legendary 44/40 cartridge that was also available in Colt Single Action Army.  This gun came out and was introduced in 1881 and it set the Winchester Repeating Arms Company back on its heels!

Perhaps charmed, this rare Serial #1 Colt comes with a great history starting with its discovery by a gun trader who spent over 40 years chasing it before finally landing it by accident!  The gun ended p in the hands of a family outWest nd the trader discovered it and dogged the owners once or twice a year sometimes every 2 years for 3 full generations.  Unknown to the trader the great - grandaughter inherited the gun and took it with 4 others to a small local hardware store where the trader happened in - and bought them all!  Had he not showed up there then t would have been gone forever!

In gun-making and American corporate history the Burgess is significant as it caused a furor at Winchester who geared up to make pistols to compete with Colt.  High level politicians put pressure on both companies as the two giants were feared to be headed toward disaster.  One of the first big level "back room" deals was made to where Colt dropped production and Winchester cancelled the pistols and the rest....they say......is history.
